A brief collection of media I recommend
Articles
I have no interest in becoming famous but this article contextualises strange human behaviour I have seen on the internet. Through anecdotes you start to understand some of the scarier consequences of becoming known by a huge number of people.
Movies
Just a gorgeous film.
Really heartwarming.
Would recommend this just for its soundtrack.
I love showing this new friends and seeing what they think. It takes a really gimmicky concept and explores it in hilarious and dark ways.
Books
- How to know a person, David Brooks
Whether we can truly know other people (or even ourselves...) is up for debate but this book certainly helps
- Four Thousand Weeks: Time Management for Mortals, Oliver Burkeman
Adding this book before I have even finished it because I think it is so genuinely profound. A considered look at the philosophy of time management rather than hyper-productivity. Also, nothing else in the world has made me even consider taking up choral singing.
TV
Albums
- Merriweather Post Pavilion - Animal Collective
Videogames
- Dishonored (2012)
Possibly my favourite video game of all time. The ambience and story are perfectly mysterious and very immersive. The gameplay is really smooth, satisfying and responsive which is very important to me. You are given a selection of really cool tools and the freedom to experiment with them. I think its a perfect game.
- Fallout: New Vegas (2010)
I love this game for its absurdity, setting and story. I've put a lot of time into this game and somehow have never finished it but I think about it a lot.
- Titanfall 2 (2016)
The best movement shooter ever. Navigating arenas with wall-runs and grapples like spiderman is delirious fun.
